Satori

Satori is loosely the Japanese word for awakening, or nirvana. The work is the story of a person’s life, told through atmosphere and vignettes of that idea — of turning away from samsara.

A meditation made by patterns of bodies, sound and light on the state of impermanence that is our reality. Lit entirely by dancer-manipulated light; temporariness, imperfection, and the current zeitgeist are all explored with softness and Lewis’ trademark subtlety and direction.

Premiered at the Space Theatre in April 2021 as part of The Move, then played Hollywood Fringe, Adelaide Fringe the same year, and toured with Unfolding through regional South Australia, Victoria and Europe.
